Experience:
Participated in Pennsylvania high school wrestling and football before receiving a NCAA wrestling scholarship at Division I Marshall University (WV). Upon graduation, for 23 years worked in public schools teaching physical education and coaching wrestling. In 1999 after completing doctoral work, served as a professor and head cross country coach at Wingate University (NC) for 17 years. Currently a consultant for the National Wrestling Coaches Association, Dr. Johnson facilitates CEO Leadership seminars for college and high school wrestling coaches and is developing a wrestling-specific risk management course. - Leadership: CEO Academy leadership facilitator, President of state-level PETE/SMGT organizations (NCAAHPERD), Assistant Dean of Education, Sport Sciences Department Chair, Sport team captain (high school/college), NCAA Division II and high school head coach
- Coaching Education/Development: Former NCAA Division II cross country coach, Pennsylvania high school wrestling coach, author of several articles and three texts on coaching, numerous presentations and workshops for North Carolina teachers and coaches, nationwide college and high school wrestling coach development seminars, and parent and coaching education workshops for many local youth sport organizations.
- Program Evaluation: Peer Reviewer for sport management programs as a member of Commission on Sport Management Accreditation(COSMA) teams; Also served experience as a reviewer for PETE programs and for Middle and Southern States Accreditations.
- Curriculum Development: Authored and implemented two master degree programs (PETE & Athletic Administration) and one community college sport management program; revised one undergraduate recreation program and one undergraduate PETE program.
- Headhunter: Involved both as search team member and chair on numerous hiring committees throughout the educational tenure.
